Great Toy From Playmobile...of course!Oct 20, 2005
By Rosemary A. Bertinelli
"Freelance Writer"
I searched for weeks trying to snag one of these for my 6 year old last Christmas. I was thrilled to have found one, and even more thrilled to find a playmobile set that I did not have to re-mortgage the house to purchase. My delight did not and does not even compare to that of my 6,now 7 year old son. He absolutely loves this set. I even catch my 10 year old son playing with it.
The two sides of the chest fold down, all the pieces store inside. There are alot of small parts including tiny coins...er...treasure that according to my boys are the most important pieces. I keep a ziploc bag in the chest for the boys to put the pieces in when they are finished playing. Every once in a while I count the pieces to make sure they are all there...yes, I am "one of those people".
This is easy for the boys to set up. It is something they can do themselves and feel good about...I am a big fan of SELF-INFLICTED positive reinforcement!
In keeping with the Playmobile tradition, the hair pieces, and "guy" accessories all come off the "guys" and are all interchangable. If you have other playmobile "guys" they WILL find their way into this set! The small pieces are great for little hands. Even the play area inside the trunk, which I felt would be too small and confining, is great for little hands. I have to keep reminding myself that I am actually purchasing the toys for little children!
Because this is a complete set in and of itself, it is perfect to keep "out". This makes it easily accessible for regular play. Because "pick-up" is so easy, it is the perfect toy to encourage the "keep your toys picked-up" rule without feeling that pang of guilt.
The toy simply is not too overwhelming for children to play or pick-up. That, I feel is the constant appeal.
Do keep the pieces in a zip-top bag though because the tiny coins can be easily lost...especially while opening the toy, sometimes the motion causes the loose pieces to fly out. Hence, my 4 star durability rating.
All-in-all, a fabulous toy that stimulates imaginative play AND nurtures the feeling of self-satisfaction because your child can "maintain" the toy on his or her own.
Fantastic Price for Playmobile! Great starter set that will introduce both you and your child into the wonderful world of PLAYMOBILE!

I can't believe how great this toy is. For 20 bucks you get all this stuff, little crabs, pirates, swords, and more...
My 4 year old loves it and has played with this for hours. We are definetly getting him the other stuff that goes with it. It's great to see him play make believe!! He even wanted to be a pirate for Halloween.

Great, fun toyOct 28, 2005

We bought this toy at target for $29.99 My son loves it. The pieces are very small but it is for older children. We play with it everyday and still have all the pieces. I am suprised that people rate the toy on their ability to keep track of the pieces. This exceptional playmobil toy is self contained. The pieces all go right back inside the pirate ship and the doors shut. Keeping track of the pieces is great for responsibility and keeping pride in your beloningings. This toy has great features and wonderful pieces that really add to the play. There are little animals and even "coins" that add to the play value of this toy. I would buy it again. Its compact, great price and excellent for the imagination.

Gangway! It's the Pirate Treasure Chest!Aug 20, 2006
By History_of_Art_Geek After seeing the Playmobil ads on television, my son was thrilled to receive the Pirate Treasure Chest Christmas morning. His play sessions are long lasting, which isn't surprising considering he received the Pirate Dungeon as well. He goes overboard, and creates all sorts of pirate drama when playing with his limey mates. His favorite item is the pirate captain as they share a light complexion and red hair. He's impressive with a long red beard, red and black striped pants, and a big skull necklace. My son and his father assembled the set along with the Pirate Dungeon, and it took them an hour for both toys. The manual is very detailed with color images, and hardly any written instructions. It's very straightforward, and once the items are installed such as the rock formations, they are permanent. Be sure to set aside the instructions as all the accessories are catalogued if needed for replacements.
What amazes me about Playmobil toys is the pieces are so elaborate. For instance, the pirate captain consists of 8-separate pieces: his beard, his hair, a cape, a pirate hat, plume for his hat, and 2-cuffs. The bodies move at the hips so the figures can sit, the heads move from side to side, and the arms and hands move 360°. The hands are set in a permanent "C" position so they can grasp anything the set has to offer such as a weapon.
My Mother-in-law commented that it was too bad that there were so many tiny pieces in the Pirate Treasure Chest as they are easy to lose. Short of a few gold and silver pieces, we haven't lost anything from this set. All of the accessory simply store in the treasure chest for convenient play. The pirate theme can suggest violence with the canons and weapons, but that's simple to fix by removing them from the set. My son adores the canon. He places all the pirates along the pier [which he calls the plank] and sets the canon firing. The only nitpicky thing I can mention is that the cardboard scenes are bent from being flipped so often. I'm considered laminating it so it doesn't tear. Then again, I can always replace it with Playmobil.
This German line can be pricey, but the retail price for this set is extremely reasonable, and worth every penny. Don't be a scurvy dog, pick up a set of your own!
