I really do wish I loved this fire truck. In some ways I do. It has many features, such as an extendable ladder, small ax and fire extinguisher, the two firemen that can sit in 3 different places, the retractable hose. Unfortunately, several of the pieces come off much too easily. The pieces that I am constantly putting back together include: the entire ladder piece, which has to be snapped on during initial assembly, the platform at the end of the ladder on which the firemen stand, the string that enables the ladder to extend, and today the tiny plastic piece that holds the platform onto the ladder came unglued. This is all after only a week of owning the toy! Furthermore, the firemen are rather stiff and difficult to pose. I do not think this is due to being new, but rather to the materials from which they were made. Their hands are small pieces of cylindrical wood, and though they can "hold" the fire extinguisher, they cannot hold the ax in any way. Or the hose.
Otherwise the truck is really well made! The wood is very sturdy, the design is beautiful and very detailed. My son loves to play with it. However, there are so many fire trucks on the market; I would not purchase this one again, I'm afraid, unless there are some changes made.

I bought this fire engine for my 3-year-old son for Christmas and he loves it! The moving parts, the flexible legs on the firemen, and the good size are all a hit. However, the "cherry picker" at the top of the ladder seems to have a fairly loose joint and comes off all the time. It always snaps back into place, but it's a little too hard for my son to do, so he has to bring it to Mommy when it breaks.
Overall, this is a still a great toy and gets a lot of use!

We love our plan toys fire truck! I have three boys (ages: 4, 3, and 5 months). I love that this toy is safe for all of them to use. I don't have to worry about the baby mouthing it because it's made from soy based paint. The paint is manufactured in South Korea. Not one iota of this has been made in China.
My oldest is so rough on his toys! My husband laughed when he saw I bought this for a Christmas presant for the three year old. He said, the oldest will break that in a day. It took three months for him to break the hose. I'm telling you it is NOT the manufacturer's fault my son pulled and pulled on it trying to completely pull the mechanism out of the truck for three full months. Finally, it gave in. We can manually fix the hose.
This is the one toy they constantly play with. They love making the sounds of the engine. And, I find that less annoying than the Tonka that makes all kinds of noises. The driver's wheel actually moves and I'll catch them *driving* it. I love that this challenges them in that way. It's easy for little fingers to explore. No crevices or pinching hinges/doors/ladder.
This is worth every penny in my book. I am going to be purchasing more plan toys in the future and phasing out the junky loud plastic ones. If you are a new parent don't even waste your money on anything else. Invest in your children's toy collection instead of having a million plastic things that break, hurt or otherwise don't challenge creative play.

I purchased this toy for my grandson's 3rd birthday. It is unique, has rounded corners, is well thought out as a creative toy to spark imagination! The other name brand fire trucks he had with ladders had "ladder issues" as well so I would not let the sometimes wobbly "cherry picker" at the end of the ladder stop you from purchasing this toy. It is study and encourages thoughtful play much seems lacking in many very "detailed" toys currently on the market. It was shipped promptly and is as pictured. Lots of fun and activity for a child with a creative mind!

My 3 1/2 year old adores this fire engine. I looked a lot and read lots of reviews before "settling" on this one. I am so glad I did too! My son has enjoyed playing with it and all the parts. The removable fire fighters make it so they can go and rescue people. He likes all the working parts, can operate it all, and we've had no trouble with anything breaking. The two cons are that the platform at the end of the ladder pops off too easily 9but also pops back on with my help) and there isn't a hook for the extinguisher to snap into (that will be lost in no time if I don't help keep tabs on it). But it is more than worth buying regardless.
