Playmobile house fence with gatesJan 31, 2012
By Patricia Treat
"young at heart"
This sturdy little plastic picket fence is the right size for a Fisher Price loving family dollhouse, if one only uses it to cover the 3 sides of a front yard (not connecting it into a rectangle, but as a [ shape). It is 63" long altogether, end to end. The connector posts are 1 7/8" high, and the highest point of the slightly arched driveway gate is 2 inches high. The driveway gate opening is 5 1/2 inches wide. The front walk gate has a clever locking mechanism, but the driveway gate, which has the same mechanism, has nothing to lock into (a simple slit in the plastic would have solved that). Still, the gate tends to remain shut without being locked, and remain open when opened. There are two J shaped pieces that we were unable to find a place/purpose for (and both of us are college grads, one with a PhD). No child could put this fence together as it took all my strength and a good deal of problem-solving cunning. I cannot judge how well it will stay together in the hands of a child as it has not yet been tested, but I suspect it will become disconnected with a fairly rambunctious child--however, I doubt the actual pieces would break--there is nothing gimpy about this plastic. Other than the difficulty of getting fence ends to go into the posts (brute force), and figuring out how to put the gate lock together (cunning), I have no complaints. It is fairly cleverly made, though it would have been more clever to have the fence ends simply slide up the slits of the posts, which would also help them stay together better as well, as they come apart with a good yank. I am pleased to have it. I wish one more post had been included since I don't plan to use my fence in a rectangular-connected shape.
