2Please find another xylophone!Nov 29, 2003

This xylophone is adorable but that's about all it has going for it. I received it in the mail today and decided to send it back within 2 minutes. The tones (and that is being generous) are just terrible. I couldn't play any recognizable tune with them at all. If you're child is into banging, try a drum or another xylophone. The Tap a Tune Xylophone by Little Tykes gets fairly good reviews and is less expensive. I wanted this one for my son because it has the look of a classic toy but that really doesn't matter if doesn't have proper tones.

1Plunk, plunk...plunk, plunk...OY!Dec 12, 2003

I love the look of this xylophone--the colors are vibrant; the shape is cute. But the sound quality of the keys is horrible. First of all, the keys are wooden not metal like most xylophones--which is okay, but the product doesn't mention this and the picture is a little misleading. The red key and the orange key sound the same, and the other three make hollow, plunky sounds. Instead, I recommend the Grover 8 Note Children's Xylophone (www.giardinelli.com) if you like metal keys and the 8 Note Wooden Children's Xylophone (www.grothmusic.com) if you prefer wooden keys. Both are beautiful and cost the same, if not a few dollars less...

5Fun toyNov 29, 2007
By Tricia L. Reed
This toy is a safe, less annoying alternative to the plastic and metal< made in china, ones found in big-box marts.

I like the wooden "keys" and the softer tones they have...as for not being "tuned" as another reviewer was upset about, I don't know any baby/toddler who will do anything but bang on it anyway...at least this doesn't give me a headache. Plus if my 13 mo old chews on it I don't have to worry about lead paint!

5tuned to non-western scale, not "untuned!"Aug 25, 2008
By melindabobinda
This is a great toy. My daughter is 5 and it's still hard for me to part with it. It is durable, soft (unlike most really loud xylophone toys) and wonderful for infants, with its lack of corners and small parts. Contrary to these reviews, it is of course tuned; the major scale is not the world's only scale! It is simply not tuned to a western major scale, so you will not be able to play Twinkle Twinkle Little Star on it. As far as I'm concerned, this is an unalloyed blessing -- if you want to hear twinky little kids songs, buy every other toy on the market. With its hollow, gentle, wood tones, this is perfect for parents and kids alike.

5Inspire Their Musical TalentsFeb 09, 2008
By Anthony Fiallo
I had bought the Plan Toys Shape and Sort for my grand-daughter and was so satisfied with it that I wanted to get her another Plan Toy. She helped my in my decision making process by playing with the blocks and banging them together and "singing". I bought the Xylophone and am very pleased. The quality is what I have now come to expect from Plan Toys and I have the extra added assurance that the toys are lead free. The wooden blocks produce nice melodic tones which my grand-daughter eagerly coaxes from the instrument by banging on it or sliding the stick along the tops of the keys. I am no musician, but I've played with it as well and have to admit......its a lot of fun..........I'm very impressed by their products.
