Interesting, Yet Not the Most Essential of the Playmobil Dinosaur CollectionJan 07, 2011
By goonius For my daughter's birthday, having stumbled on a fabulous Playmobil sale, we've bought the final three dinosaur sets which will complete her collection -- including the Pteranodon.
At the right price -- which is roughly half of what it's offered for here (and what we paid for it) -- it's actually pretty neat, and certainly worthwhile. Unless you have a Pteranodon fanatic or truly want to complete your dino collection, I wouldn't be inclined to purchase it at MSRP. It's just not really worth that, in my opinion -- and I say this as a huge fan of Playmobil who generally accepts a fairly elevated price.
In this set, you get the Pteranodon himself, with a gray ABS plastic body, which is seamlessly molded to the rubber-like plastic wings. I would estimate his wingspan to be perhaps 7", and his wings are stationary - do not fold in. I kind of wish they did, that would just seem a bit more realistic. His head is pretty neat though, as his beak opens and closes by grasping his body and pressing the back of his head. In play, he could presumably swoop down and snag either the silver fish or orangey-red smake that come with the set. All in all, he's a nice looking dinosaur.
Included also is a tree with one branch which he is able to perch on (tho one would have to push down quite firmly to get him to do so). His feet can be tucked under him or pushed upright when he is perched upon the tree.
Like the majority of Playmobil, this set is made in Europe.
