Where are the Books?Jan 16, 2007

This has potential to be a great toy. My daughter loves how its interactive on the TV, however there aren't any books. Dora is the only book I've found and that has to be ordered through Amazon. I've looked at my local Target and Walmart. The books on Story Reader do not work on Story Reader Video Plus. So....my daughter hasn't picked this one up again since Christmas since she only has the one book that came with it.
When more books come out, this should be a fun toy.

Need More Books!!Apr 30, 2007

I'm giving this an overall rating of 2 stars because of the limited book/game selection, otherwise it would have been higher.
It seems like a great concept. My preschooler really enjoyed playing the book/game that comes with the Story Reader Video Plus, and also has the 3 other books currently available (Dora, Thomas, Elmo). The video rendering could have been done better (the Dora video doesn't looks so hot on a big screen TV). Some of the games were so simplistic, but others kept my son interested, for a while at least.
Why only 3 books?? When will Publications International come out with another book for this thing - if ever? Be aware - books that just say "Story Reader" will not work with this - they have to be for the "Story Reader Video Plus." If I had realized how limited the book choices were, I would not have bought it.

Don't be fooled - misleading packaging might leave you with useless booksJan 05, 2010
By L. Bright Overall, I was happy with the Story Reader Video +. My son, who is now 5, has used it since he was 3, but became bored with the few books that came with it. So I finally decided to buy more "Story Reader" books and actually bought a whole collection. I spent $30 on the books, just to open the package and find that the cartridge from the "Story Reader" books isn't compatable with the "Story Reader Video +" console. From what I can tell, there isn't even an adapter available. So now I am stuck with books (since the packaging is now gone), and will have to buy a "Story Reader" -- not the same as the "Story Reader Video +" in order to utilize these books. There was NOTHING on the packaging to tell you that these systems are different and incompatible. The logo on the package is the same, and systems look VERY similar, so one would naturally think they are the same. I feel ripped off and now I have a bunch of books my son won't be able to use. Finally, I don't want to even buy the Story Reader -- it doesn't seem as educational or fun as the Video Plus system. With the Video Plus system, it actually enabled him to see words highlighted on the screen and play additional games.
I blame the brand manager on this product for trying to dupe consumers into thinking the Story Reader books would work with any system by omitting helpful information like: "Only for use with the Story Reader, not the Video + system". !!

Great educational toy for younger children...Jul 08, 2008

My grand daughters love the Video Reader. They are 3 and 5 and feel that they are big kids when they read along. Without them even realizing it, the reader is teaching them to read.

Broke after 1 month's useMay 20, 2008
By J.W. Koester My 2 1/2 year old son liked this toy and even though some of the games included were over his head, he still liked to try. Unfortunately, the video game connection broke, and we've only opened it a month ago. We are all disappointed and will probably buy him a V-Smile instead.
