Excellent toy for role playingOct 12, 2008
By Amazon shopper My kids love this toy. The advantages I see:
- Durability. - Quality. - It is not made in China. - Simple but yet appealing because it is the kid who developes the play rather than the toy doing everything for the kid. - Excellent for role-playing.

Great Toy for a 2 yr. oldFeb 05, 2010

I bought this train set for a friend's son. He was excited for Christmas as he saw this gift. The scale is appropriate for a child between the ages of 2-3. He was able to make the engine run on the tracks all by himself. The smile on his face was wonderful!

Darling First Railroad SetDec 28, 2009
By goonius We received this set alongside the meadow and ladybug boy riding the snail for Christmas this year. Each day since, this toy has been played with at least once per day by both my children, 23 months and almost 4 years, and I see its value extending far beyond that.
The tracks set up easily and simply, and are just large enough to allow for play without taking up a great deal of space; about a foot and a half wide, I'd estimate. They fit on our coffee table. The set comes with two train cars and the capacity to seat three passengers; one in the engine and two in the passenger car. The wheels of the train are a rainbow of colors and the set is aesthetically pleasing. There are two people included in the set; an engineer in red uniform, complete with hat and a woman in a pink shirt with a yellow scarf.
The people are appropriately sized so that they could be included in play with the 4+ Playmobil sets at a later time, but do have less detail. The people only bend at the waist. Their arms are one with their tops, and their legs don't separate.
The faces of the people hearken back to my old barrel-shaped Fisher Price people from the 70's which were one of my most enduring, memorable and well-loved toys. The effect these people have on my children reminds me, fondly, of my own childhood. There's something about the simplicity of the design of these people that allows the imagination to create individual personalities for each, which is something you don't get with overly detailed people like the modern Fisher Price Little People.
Another benefit over other characters is that all the pieces in this set are made of rigid, safe, durable ABS plastic, as Playmobil has been since its inception. Legos are made of this same plastic, for those unfamiliar. Too, this set is made in Malta, where Playmobil has been made from the beginning.
This is a great toy for children just developing interest in role-play. It's a toy that requires a child to initiate play rather than involuntarily initiating play via lights and sounds and music (something that in our household has become known as the 'call-back feature') It's a fine simple toy, and is completely enjoyable. I highly recommend this toy and intend to encourage this line as a future gift-giving option for our youngest daughter.
I wish the train had more than 1 coach!Sep 16, 2011
By Mom of two Toy arrived on time. It did not come in a suitcase that the product describes it comes with. My son absolutely loves this train! He goes choo-choo all over the house. Beautifully designed and perfect for the tiny hands to hold. Awesome for role play. My son attaches the engine to the coach, places the driver and passenger and off he goes choo-chooing!
2 things I really wished for in this set:
- I wish it had one more coach - way too costly for just one engine and coach - The track is plain dark blue - I wish it was colorful.
Overall a good buy.

Mabye better for older kidsFeb 12, 2010

I bought this for my 18-month old who loves trains. maybe it's better for an older child, because he just pulled the track apart and the one train. it wasn't expensive, but he's mpore interested in carrying one part fo the train around than playing with it on the track.
Otherwise it's very durable and made wll for something so inexpensive.
