Not Bad for the MoneyFeb 05, 2010
By goonius I love the little safari vehicle... except for the fact that it has that Playmobil 123 wheel problem. For some reason, on the 123 sets, Playmobil began making wheels that... well, don't really roll very well, which is the point of wheels really. They're set up so that the black part will turn round while the yellow part remains stationary. But it's just kind of a flawed design; if you give the car a good hard shove, momentum just isn't there, and it may go a disappointing couple of inches, before coming to a halt. Of course, you can use relentless kid-power to get the thing to go, and I suppose the kids will have to do just that because mom wants a safer toy made in Malta, not in China.
The little driver is super cute. He's all decked out in a wide-brim safari hat and looks like he's ready to hit the outback. Or clean up the zoo, as we've dubbed him zookeeper. This set seems a perfect companion to the zoo set, and so we actually bought them together. This set also comes with a rhino and a box of food with grass painted on it, so presumably a box of grass? It tucks neatly in the back of the truck.
Save for the issue of the wheels, I'd say this set is one of the best for the money, as we bought him for slightly less than they are asking here. Everything else about this set is darling.

Safari Truck and ZookeeperApr 22, 2010
By Stephanie We got the Playmobil safari truck for our 2 year old for Christmas. It has 5 pieces: the 1-piece zookeeper, the food crate, a rhinoceros, a truck with a trailer hitch, and a trailer. We have not had any issues with the wheels. Then again, our son prefers parking cars to propelling them. The rhinoceros is one solid piece, as is the food crate. The zookeeper is one solid piece (nothing to lose!). He's hinged in the middle, so he can sit or stand. His feet are a little wider than the big kid figures, so it's easier for little ones to make him stand. His head rotates 180*. Because of his size, the packaging restricts this toy to 18 months and older. I was surprised one day to see one of the green rails on the trailer detached. I snapped it back on, and it hasn't given us trouble since then. We got the Playmobil 1 2 3 motorcycle at the same time. Our son was delighted to find out that the motorcycle can fit in the trailer, too. Since then we have gotten the fire engine. To my surprise, it came with a trailer hitch! Our son loves mixing and matching with that trailer. Playmobil 1 2 3 is our favorite brand for toddler-age vehicles. We look forward to building further on our collection.
