Fun to build, but doesn't workJan 04, 2009
By Ben I bought this for my son for xmas and am going to return it. Putting the different things together was fun for him, but the whole point of taking the time to do it is that there is a reward at the end: a helicopter that he can operate, or a car or a funny alien thing. But the problem is that the pieces are ill-fitting. The car won't work, for example, because the screws holding the frame together are loose and cannot be tightened. Actually, that is the problem with all the models - the pieces are held together by a plastic brace through which you insert the screw which then expands the plastic to hold the things in place, only the plastic often doesn't expand enough to hold things in place. I had an erector set as a kid and expected something similar with this kit. The quality is poor in comparison (lots of plastic) and, as I've said, it doesn't work. Erector is a great idea for budding engineers like my son (I have no such inclination!). He really enjoyed making the models but was understandably frustrated when he couldn't get them to do what they are supposed to do.

Worst toy ever!Aug 19, 2009

It's hard for me to believe that this thing ever made it out the door. Did no one test this thing before they manufactured it? Granted, the concept is cool. My 9 year old son was giddy when he saw the box, purchased for his birthday. But then it was all down hill quick from there. The little black plugs are hard to get in and even harder to get out. The illustrations on the instructions are so poor, it is near impossible to tell which piece you are supposed to use. In the end, my 15 year old daughter had to pretty much build the whole thing for my 9 year old son, who can otherwise put together a complex Lego set in minutes. Even she had an extremely difficult time getting it together. Then the icing on the cake was when it was all finally assembled (she started with the car), it fell apart. The wheels, for instance are held on by friction. Who thought that was a good idea? I got the same results as all the other reviewers. My son was so disappointed, he asked me to take it back, which I promptly did. This is NOT the Erector quality I had experienced as a kid. Far, far from it. Just cheaply made, plastic junk that does not work. Avoid this thing like the plague, or risk disappointment.

Gift for NephewJan 11, 2007
By Yare Marketing While the Star Wars action figure was the initial hit at Xmas, this one will challenge his engineering mind. Erector still has the quality I remember from my childhood. Though I can't get over the fact that they have power tools instead of a wrench.

My son loves Erector sets and I got this one for him as a gift about 6 months ago. He loves it, the motorized tool can be used as a drill or the motor in the finished product, great idea. I think it could be a touch more powerful and to that get better battery life too. but overall this is great to add to a set you have, the sky is the limit when you build with erector! Great buy!

Great building toy!Dec 27, 2009
By Happy Dad I don't get the other reviews. This thing went together well and works as advertised. As construction toys go, I've paid more for toys that promise more and deliver less. Granted, this thing is no babysitter - if you're considering it for a seven year old, you'll want to build it together. I bought it as a gift for my son on an impulse, and I almost returned it when I got home and read the reviews. Glad I didn't. If you have a kid that likes building and motors, and you enjoy building things together and then seeing a satisfying product at the end that actually does what you expect, then you'll think this is great.
