Fun, educational, durable, and quality toyMar 27, 2009
By Isabella E. Bertelli I bought this for my son last month as a potty training reward. He loves it!! Goes with his T-Rex...Took away everything but the mamma and baby dino since he is only 26mths. Solid, durable, and very attractive. No worries of toxic chemicals either from Playmobil. He takes his Triceratops with him everywhere. The horns are not sharp and when he is older there is a volcano that you can make erupt and it's bottom has a place for the little baby. All the accessories are cute and will allow for a mini dino park. The educational value of fantasy play is also super, and will serve as manipulatives once he actually starts the topic of dinos in pre-k. Lots of expandability with this line and will grow with his age and imagination. Great Job Playmobil!!

Great Dinosaurs; Fun SetDec 31, 2010
By goonius Of the three Playmobil Dinosaur sets we bought our daughter's this Christmas, I'd thought this one would be the biggest hit. It wasn't actually - the Deinonychus set has drawn more attention - but not for anything lacking in this set really, more as a matter of preference I suppose.
This set includes, of course, the Triceratops and baby. The mommy Triceratops is quite lovely, realistic, and detailed -- the highlight of the set. She is made -- as all Playmobil pieces are -- of sturdy ABS plastic (inherently BPA and phthalate-free). Her head and legs move, and her mouth opens in quite a handsome way so that she may be hand-fed scraps of greenery. My kids like to feed her grass outside. Her horns and feet are made of a slightly softer plastic, giving her feet an almost grippy ability and preventing her pointy horns from becoming playtime weaponry. She measures 9" long by 3-4" high.
The baby dino is roughly the size of the people, not accounting for his girth, and is very cute. He is our second baby Triceratops, as we already own the baby dinosaur add-on made by Playmobil.
The volcano is neat, and has seen play, but wasn't (oddly) an item that wowed my kids like the cage to the amphibian vehicle from the Deinonychus set. To set up and activate the volcano, the lava top must be manually pushed down. There are then four gray rocks that sit atop it, nearly covering the lava. There are faint guidelines that indicate which rocks go where, by shape, much like a puzzle. But for four pieces, it is a rather difficult puzzle with a wee bit of a learning curve, even for adults. That said, my four year old was able to grasp it and reassemble the top within a week of receiving it. To activate the volcano, there is a tab just above the opening to the cave. Push it down, and the lava top pops up rapidly, scattering the four pieces noisily. Fun!
There are also in this set a small patch of green terrain and prehistoric plants that sit atop it and the volcano. There is a lizard and a plastic crate to keep him in, two dino explorers and some tools and cases for the tools, as well as a dinosaur skeleton that comes apart into a number of pieces. Most of these items, save for the lizard and skeleton have largely been ignored and integrated into our mass of Playmobil 'tiny pieces' which are relegated to large Tupperware bins for only occasional play, lest they drive mom insane.
While I think this is a great set, I think the MSRP slightly exceed the value. Thankfully it can be found for less (see comments). The Triceratops, by far, are the most played with elements of the set. Considering this, you are paying a good deal more than the other more simple dino sets unless you seek a better deal out. However, it has been fun to set up a mini-Jurassic Park (reference lost on the kids, even if the concept isn't) around the train set that Santa brought, and the volcano has been integral to that.
If your child likes dinosaurs, particularly Triceratops - as my children do - you can't really go wrong with this set. It's pretty much a given that it is fantastically durable, and could even be passed to the next generation should someone choose. Resale values on Playmobil never go down either, should one choose to go that route when this no longer interests their child.
I'd buy it again, and in fact, we've bought the remaining Playmobil dinosaurs that we are lacking for my daughter's birthday. I wouldn't collect any others, as I beleive Playmobil combines the most desirable amount of realism, quality, and safety in terms of materials.

Great toyJan 14, 2009
By Grandmother I purchased this for my 3 and 1/2 year old grandson as a Christmas present. It was a joy to see the expression on his face when he opened it. He was so excited and began to immediately play with it despite the fact that he had several other presents to open. It is durable and allows for much creative play. A caution -- there are several very small pieces. My daughter-in-law is very impressed with Playmobil toys and says that the boys love them.
Playmobil Triceratops with babyMar 30, 2011
By snowman7 Bought this for my Grandson's fourth birthday as he's really into dinosaurs and he was very pleased to get it which makes me believe that it is a successful toy/gift and I have found playmobil to be a quality product.
Dinosaurs and VolcanoesMar 09, 2011
By D. Stotler If you have or know a child 4 or older, this toy is a good selection. It combines the fun of Dinosaurs with erupting Volcanoes.
It's durable but does need an adult to make the initial assembly.
