Really nice!May 26, 2008

In recent memory, Playmobil has come up with new themes every year. One year it was the Vikings, last year it was the Romans. Later this year it'll be the Egyptians and sea exploration with whales.
There are a bunch of great sets in the Romans theme, you have chariots, the Coliseum, military figures and such. This is the nautical release, the Roman ship.
The Roman ship is great. It's sturdy and easy to put together and only has a single mast and sail, which means less set up for the younger kids. It comes with 5 Romans and a small spear shooting catapult. When put together it's beautiful to look at and has great play value. A picture is worth a thousand words, so just look at the picture, how can you not buy it?! Any kids or adult who has ever dreamed of owning a trireme (this is a single banked kiddies' version of one) can now own one!
The Vikings have been discontinued so you can't get the Viking ship anymore, so if you like this Roman ship, don't even think about getting it for Christmas or next year, it might be gone then. Get it now and stash it somewhere if you want it for a Christmas present. It's highly recommended!
A little primer on Playmobil if you don't know what they are.
1) All Playmobil products are of the highest quality. Everything is well made, thought out and designed by this great German company which has been popular in Europe for decades but only relatively recently in the US. Playmobil is the Mercedes of toy brands.
2) High educational and play value. You want your kids to learn about Romans? Buy them this set. Want them to know about Egyptians? Buy them next year when they get here.
3) Playmobil is not for any child under 7 or so, because most sets have a lot of small parts. But that's part of the fun of it for the older kids, up to 99 years old! You can have a lot of fun customizing your figures. For the younger kids, there's Playmobil 123.
4) The great secret about this ship and Playmobil in general is that there are tons of add ons. You can buy additional Romans to beef up your army and enemies to fight with. If you have any questions about Playmobil there are several guides, catalogs and forums where you can hang out with like minded people.
5) In conclusion, this is a great product and if you've never had a Playmobil set, it's like being introduced to sugar if you've never had it before. Once you get hooked on Playmobil, you'll won't be able to help buying more Playmobil stuff. I don't know if that'll be a good thing or not.

Row well, #41, and live!Jul 20, 2008

After a family watch of the classic movie Ben-Hur (the title is a qoute from that movie - my kids (6 & 7) were very impressed by the battle scenes involving Roman galleys. This toy was a natural purchase to encourage this interest in history.
My 7 year old put the galley together with minimal help from me, and they both have been playing with it for a few weeks now. It is hilarious to hear them humming the tunes from Ben-hur for the galley-slaves as they play, and shout 'Ramming Speed!!'.
As in all Playmobil toys, the parts are not painted, but the color is embedded in the plastic itself. So there is not danger of lead paint in this toy (which was manufactured in Germany).
It is a bit pricey, but it is worth it to see the kids recreate ancient sea battles, and become interested in history.
Rome Total War!Jan 25, 2009
By Taichiman I have been a fan of the Roman Legion since the game Rome:Total War and this has really made my day. All I need is to buy more legionaries to form my little legion. The attention to detail is superb!
